Oversold Firm Water
Lakes Travis and Buchanan have 445,226 AFY of firm water to sell. LCRA has committed for over 507,000 AFY of water.

LCRA wanted to sell more, so it started searching for ways to claim it had more water. It began buying the run-of-the-river (ROR) water rights that were not being used in the lower basin. Its plan was to move the diversion points of the ROR water rights up to Lake Travis , so it could have more water to sell "on paper". This water was not being used, so how would it add more water to Lake Travis ? Currently moving the Garwood Water Right diversion point is in technical review with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). (Run-of-the-River Rights)
Other things are "in the works" at LCRA like conservation, groundwater, and desalination. The problem is everything is "in the works" and LCRA has already promised the water. LCRA has sold and is collecting money on water it does not have. |
