Reuse
Every drop of water should be used and used again. If we do not start doing this in Central Texas, we could end up like California . Orange County outside Los Angeles and San Diego are drinking their own treated, distilled waste water. They call it "Toilet to Tap".
Reuse in Texas should be taking water from the sewer, treating it and piping it through a separate infrastructure for outdoor use on golf courses, parks, schools--major water users. The cities would get to sell the water and then sell it again. Entities purchasing it are happy because they are able to purchase the water at a reduced price. Lake Travis is the happiest because its water gets used and used again.
As new developments are established, the reuse pipes should accompany the water and wastewater infrastructures. Developers pay the price, not the water users.
Reclaiming water is also necessary. Used water and run-off should be recaptured, treated and placed back in the water system. |
