Dirty Little Secrets Demand Honest Answers

Here’s the truth you won’t hear:

  • The Interbasin Exchange that Doesn’t Exchange.  Most of Williamson County (Region G) is in the Brazos River Watershed.  Most of Travis County (Region K) is in the Colorado River Watershed.  The water Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock are taking will never be returned to Lake Travis.  Their idea of exchange is to take and take and never give back.

  • An Alternative Water Resource Exists in Their Own Backyard.  A large almost unused aquifer flows through Region G—right in Williamson County’s own backyard.

  • LCRA has Promised more Firm Water than Lakes Travis and Buchanan actually have.  It has oversold actual firm water and is continuing to sell.  It is pursuing ways to find more water outside the lakes, but is hitting significant obstacles.  LCRA has promised before they can deliver.

  • During Times of Peak Water Usage the Level of Lake Travis will Fluctuate Wildly.  When is your water bill the highest?  When is your electric bill the highest?  When are our lakes used the most?  Peak water usage in the summer will cause Lake Travis to go down rapidly.  This equals summers of low, low lake levels.

  • Why all this push to get so much water in Leander?   The American Statesman announced on July 12:  Leander Mayor John Cowman has teamed with John Lewis, a longtime Central Texas land developer, on an $11.5 million land investment in Leander’s ETJ.  They envision a high end residential development.

The City Councils of Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock are your representatives.  They are supposed to be the decision makers.  Are they making the decisions or simply following the decisions of the people that are making money by draining Lake Travis?

You need to tell Elected Officials how you feel.
Tell them to:

  • Stop listening to the people that will make millions off the lake project.
  • Listen to YOU--the tax payers who will be paying for the project.
  • Stop going deeper into Lake Travis for water.
  • Use the obvious alternative--aquifer water as a secondary source for water.
